Springboks vs. France

When your own comments catch up with you

There were high hopes for some of the fans, me included, when the Springboks faced France at Newlands on Saturday. The Springboks, making a habit of performing above expectations when they are witten off, made their loyal fans believe that they would pull this one off. Dispite this motivation of trying to prove the detractors wrong, the Springboks appeared untrained, uncoached and confused. The highlight, or should we say lowlight was at one point, where Jaco vd Westhuizen changed direction, but with no support, he had to run into touch. The bewilderment in his eyes probably best describes the mindset of the Springboks. The were confused, bewildered, lost.

As in the previous game, their was this uncharacteristic lack of commitment by some players. The forwards were destroyed in the scrums, with the main culprit the incompetent tighthead prop, Eddie Andrews. Hopefully this is the last we will see of him, but knowing Jake White, he will stick with him, because of his ability to benchpress. I have no idea how this argument works, but Jake White will probably have an answer to that.

But let us get back to the game and my assessment of the game...
